No one on the Bryan City Council has expressed their opposition to lobbying for local high speed rail service.
The question discussed during a council workshop Tuesday was how to financially support that effort.
Mayor Jason Bienski received unanimous support to splitting the annual cost of $25,000. The mayor directed the city manager to send a letter requesting participation from the cities of College Station, Wixon Valley, and Kurten, along with Brazos County, the Research Valley economic development group, and the Brazos Valley Council of Governments.
For years, a Dallas-based consultant has been promoting what’s nicknamed the “Texas T-Bone” route. That would connect B/CS to Houston and Dallas. Lobbyist Matt Brasseaux, who previously said Japanese investors based in Houston are preparing to announce a direct route to and from Dallas, compared the economic development opportunities of a local rail station to what he sees outside his office.

The mayor also directed the city manager to ask A& M leaders to support the proposal by contacting state officials.
