Bryan Council Considers Changes in Capital Project Priorities

One of the ways next year’s proposed budget for the City of Bryan is going to end up with a surplus…without raising the property tax levy…is reducing the amount spent on capital projects.

Interim City Manager Kean Register told the city council they’re proposing to spend $3 million dollars in that area.

Comments from Kean Register.

Staff has also proposed changes in capital project priorities.  Some projects have been withdrawn to ensure financing of improvements related to Bryan’s share of the new Health Science Center campus. Councilman Mike Southerland thought a higher priority was replacing the bridge on Briarcrest over the Earl Rudder Freeway.

Comments from Mike Southerland.

Chuck Konderla told Southerland he couldn’t disagree more about the need for the freeway style exit at Highway 47 and what will become the Health Science Parkway.

Comments from Chuck Konderla.

The council was told the Texas Department of Transportation will award the $10 million dollar project this December. Bryan’s share of the bridge is $1 million, plus another $3 million towards the parkway.
