Bryan Council Approves Water Study

The Bryan city council is moving ahead with borrowing more than $2 million dollars to study what could lead to moving water from an aquifer into city wells.

Mike Southerland, who is the council’s liaison to the Brazos Valley Groundwater Management District (BVGWMD) spent ten minutes explaining why this was the best option for Bryan’s future water needs.

The state approved plan is opposed by the BVGWMD. General manager Alan Day says the city is not following the state’s intent to create new sources of drinking water.

Councilman Ben Hardeman said he hated to hear inflammatory language used to describe the study.

Also voting for the study were Al Saenz, Rafael Pena, and Buppy Simank.

City manager Kean Register says there is enough money in the water fund to cover the loan.
