Update:
A unanimous Bryan city council Tuesday night approved a new skatepark at Williamson Park.
The vote extends a contract the city made with a firm last year to proceed with what’s called a “design build” project.
The configuration of the new skatepark will be finalized following public meetings.
No construction timeline has been set.
Four skaters spoke in favor of proceeding, while a neighborhood resident voiced concerns about the impact of a new park that he estimated would be three times larger than the old one would have on local streets.
Original story:
Replacing a skateboard park that was dismantled at Bryan’s Williamson Park in January will be considered by the city council Tuesday night.
If the council approves the Williamson Park location and a six month contract extension with the design firm hired last year, there will be at least one community meeting before finalizing the design of the $1.2 million dollar facility.
