Bryan Council Adopts Fiscal Year 2020 Property Tax Rate On A 5-1 Vote

The Bryan city council held a special meeting Tuesday evening where the property tax rate for the 2020 fiscal year was adopted.

According to online minutes from the city website, the 5-1 vote followed a comment that “the tax rate should be cut if the City could afford to invest so much money in the regional park.”

No video or audio was available of the tax rate public hearing and council vote due to equipment issues.

Voting to keep the tax rate the same were mayor Andrew Nelson and councilmen Greg Owens, Reuben Marin, Prentiss Madison, and Brent Hairston.

Voting no was Mike Southerland.

Buppy Simank was absent.

The adopted rate of $0.629990 per $100 of assessed valuation is higher than the effective tax rate of $0.604994.
