Bryan Council Accepts Demolition Grant

Tuesday’s Bryan City Council meeting included a use it or lose it grant funding opportunity.

Community Development Manager Alsie Bond says there was little time to clear the hurdles to get federal money administered by a state agency to tear down 35 blighted structures.

Mike Southerland was among at least three councilmembers initially opposed to property owners not paying anything towards clearing their land.

What was most important to councilman Paul Madison was taking down blighted structures.

The lowest of six bidders was awarded the demolition contract at a cost of $72,274 dollars.
