Every two years, city governments update how they offer tax breaks to commercial and industrial property owners.
The last Bryan City Council meeting included unanimous approval of a revised tax abatement policy.
Before the vote, came a series of questions from now-retired councilman Mike Southerland.
Southerland sought more specific information in the guidelines, which City Manager Kean Register, City Attorney Janis Hampton, Economic Development Director Kevin Russell said are part of the application process.
Among other things, Southerland wanted in the general guidelines that full property taxes should be paid by an applicant then refunded instead of pursuing repayment if a company failed to comply. Southerland also wanted the guidelines to include the measurement tool to determine how many new employees were living in Bryan as the result of a tax abatement.
