The current makeup of the Bryan city council showed no interest in changing the current philosophy in code enforcement.
Mark Jurica fielded numerous questions in his first council update in three years.
The Bryan city council’s first update on code enforcement activities in three years included trading opinions whether to give property owners more time to keep grass mowed and resolve other nuisances.
During the council’s last meeting, Prentiss Madison called on giving elderly property owners more warnings before the city takes action that many can not afford.
Ben Hardeman acknowledged the city taking action and placing liens will create a hardship for some.
The council was told additional warnings would add more staff time and cost to the process of eliminating problems.
Jurica says once initial notifications are issued, they will be prepared to take action in May and June when they receive citizen complaints or staff makes observations.
