Bryan City Council Approves Speeding Up Timetable For Downtown Quiet Zone While Keeping Two Railroad Crossings Open

Motorists in Bryan will be able to continue crossing railroad tracks on Groesbeck and East 15th.

That was part of city council action on Tuesday that includes moving up the start of construction to establish a downtown quiet zone to the spring of next year.

Public works director Jayson Barfknecht did not expect moving up the $5.5 million dollar quiet zone two years would have an impact on the rest of the city’s list of capital improvement projects.

Mayor Andrew Nelson repeated what he’s been told by Union Pacific, that their new railyard north of Bryan will not increase train traffic but will improve their efficiency.

The railroad crossing on Reed Street would be closed, but the Texas Department of Transportation would create a new crossing at Brazos Avenue.
