Brazos Valley Food Bank on the Move

The Brazos Valley Food Bank is moving to its new location at 1501 Independence in Bryan, one street north of their current building.

Theresa Mangapora, Executive Director, said the new, larger space will benefit the food bank in a variety of ways, but the two most significant changes is freezer space and volunteer space.

“Right now we can maybe accommodate about 20 volunteers working at the same time. The new space is going to be able to accommodate three to four different groups of 20 people working at the same time,” said Mangapora.

The larger cooler/freezer unit will allow to food bank to collect and donate more fresh or frozen foods.

“We really want to switch the bulk of our food from canned and shelf-stable to fresh and frozen. We want to be giving out people the most nutritious food that is available,” said Mangapora.

Mangapora said the food bank will be fully operational at their new location by the start of November, but they will have to coexist with construction workers as renovations are completed.
