Brazos River Authority Extends Water Restrictions

The cities of Bryan and College Station continue to have voluntary water restrictions.  That’s not the case upstream along and near the Brazos River as reported below.

GEORGETOWN, Texas (AP) _ More severe water restrictions have been issued for several Central Texas cities.

Round Rock and Georgetown have banned all outdoor watering, including yards, athletic fields and washing cars.

That’s because of a problem with a 26-mile pipeline that allows the Brazos River Authority to operate two reservoirs as one system.

Lake Georgetown and Stillhouse Hollow Lake were already low because of the severe Texas drought.

Officials say Lake Georgetown water levels will keep dropping if usage isn’t reduced, because the pipeline will be out of service for at least two weeks.

The Brazos River Authority’s emergency stage 3 drought declaration issued Friday also affects the Brushy Creek and Chisholm Trail utility districts.

Other Texas cities previously limited outdoor watering to a couple of days per week.
