Brazos County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Shooting

Brazos County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a domestic disturbance call Thursday morning that left one person dead.

According to a news release, a woman reported a shooting incident at her home on Vaquero Drive in the High Country Subdivision, east of Tabor Road, at 2:15 a.m.

Sheriff Chris Kirk said it looks like a domestic disturbance turned violent.

Kirk said when deputies arrived, the woman was distraught and said she and her husband were arguing when it turned physical and that she was threatened with a hand gun.

The woman admitted to shooting her husband. 36 year-old Jason Lee Gamez was found dead in the bedroom.

No other injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.

At 2:15AM this date, 911 Emergency Dispatchers received a call from a female who reported a shooting incident at her home on Vaquero Drive in High Country Subdivision located in northeastern Brazos County. Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the home to find the female resident distraught and stating that her husband had returned home earlier and became argumentative. She stated that the situation escalated, turned physical and that she was threatened with a handgun. The female admitted that she shot her husband. Deputies and paramedics located the body of her husband in a bedroom and determined that he was deceased. The female
has been cooperative with investigators.

The deceased has been identified as 36 year old, Jason Lee Gamez . Next of kin has been notified.

No other persons were in the home at the time of the shooting. There was no threat to the public.

Sheriff’s Investigators are continuing the scene investigation and are interviewing family members, associates and neighbors. Justice of the Peace Tommy Munoz has ordered an autopsy to be conducted by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office. Investigators are also consulting with the District Attorney’s Office to determine what, if any, charges will be filed at this time.
