Update Monday afternoon:

Danny Diaz was released from a local hospital Monday afternoon and was returned to the Brazos County Jail.

In addition to being held on a murder charge, Diaz is also accused of violating probation from convictions associated with plea agreements he made in 2013 for marijuana possession and evading arrest with previous convictions.

Update Sunday night:

Danny (Daniel) Diaz remains in a local hospital, where he was arrested Friday for the murder of one woman and is suspected of killing a second woman.

Diaz was arrested for stabbing 26 year old Ashley Garcia and is suspected of striking his girlfriend, 30 year old Vanessa Gonzales, with his car.

According to a news release from the Brazos County sheriff’s office, autopsies revealed both women died of significant trauma and injury that were intentionally inflicted.

Update Friday night:

Chief Deputy Jim Stewart Friday night released the names of the victims and the suspect:

30 year old Vanessa Gonzales was the woman who was found on Weedon Loop.

26 year old Ashley Garcia was the woman who was found on Pleasant Hill Road, near FM 2818 and Sandy Point Road.

29 year old Daniel Diaz was taken into custody.

Original story:

Two women are dead and one man is in custody after what Brazos County sheriff’s investigators believe were murders east and west of Bryan.

Chief Deputy Jim Stewart says around 7:30 Friday morning east of Bryan on Weedon Loop near the Wickson Creek bridge, a trucker reported finding a woman’s body.

Stewart says the suspect was identified after doing a reverse 9-1-1 call to phones in the immediate area. That led investigators to a nearby home, where the resident said the second woman drove away in her SUV with the suspect.

About six hours after finding the first victim and after the suspect was in custody, Stewart says the body of the second woman was found on the extreme west side of Bryan near Sandy Point Road and FM 2818.

Stewart says they learned the suspect was outside his brother’s home with the SUV stuck in the mud. Deputies got to the brother’s house in time and make the arrest.

Stewart says the man who was arrested fell ill while at the jail, so he was taken to a hospital. No names have been released.
