58 year old Charles Dutcher of Toledo, who also admitted to evading arrest from a sheriff’s deputy, was sentenced to a total of 25 years.
According to the arrest report, Dutcher told the deputy after an eight mile chase that ended west of Benchley that he knew he was going to jail, so he figured he would make a run for it.
The pursuit, which began when the deputy wanted to stop a pickup for a defective brake light, included the truck veering into oncoming traffic and running through three stop signs before coming to a stop at a dead end.
According to the indictment, Dutcher’s previous DWI convictions were in Montgomery, Galveston, and Rockwall counties.
