Brazos County Judge Duane Peters announces that he is not running for re-election in 2026.

Peters, whose health has kept him from attending a county commission business meeting since June 3rd, said in a news release issued by the county that he is working every day towards the goal of returning to the office.

Peters has been county judge since 2011. His 32 year career with Brazos County began as precinct two constable in 1993, followed by his election as precinct two commissioner in 2003.

News release issued by Brazos County:

It has been about 90 days since Brazos County Judge Duane Peters appointed Kyle Kacal to serve as county judge in his absence, and Judge Peters wanted to issue the following statement:

“Bettie and I are grateful for all of your prayers and well-wishes. It’s not quite time for me to return to the office yet, but I’m working toward that goal each day. In the meantime, I appreciate the work Judge Kacal and the entire team at Brazos County are doing to keep things running smoothly for each and every resident of this great county.”

“In addition, I’m announcing that I will not run for re-election as County Judge. It has been my honor to serve all of you in this capacity, but I will not seek another term.”

Judge Peters has faithfully served the citizens of Brazos County for 32 years. He was sworn-in as Precinct 2 Constable in 1993, as Precinct 2 Commissioner in 2003, and as Brazos County Judge in 2011.
