A domestic violence arrest involving a charge of aggravated kidnapping has resulted in the paid suspension of a Brazos County jail guard.
55 year old Rene Estrada is accused of forcibly restraining his wife at their home on August 15th.
According to the arrest report, Bryan police were sent to check on the couple the following day after a doctor received a call from the wife, who said she had escaped and was on her way out of town. But she called out of concern her husband was going to kill himself.
During the six week investigation, it was learned the wife attempted to leave the home when Estrada struck her with an ironing board and dragged her into their bed.
He is accused of placing her in handcuffs for one hour and pointing a pistol at her cheek and then her temple. Among four guns removed by police was an unloaded nine millimeter pistol with three loaded magazines next to it.
Estrada was arrested last Friday (September 25) and was released from jail Sunday after posting bond.
Sheriff Chris Kirk says they were aware Estrada was being investigated, and during that time the sheriff says Estrada was either taking personal days and was not at work or was on modified duty assignments.
Since Estrada was arrested and placed on suspension with pay, the sheriff says there has been an internal investigation; which Kirk expects to be concluded this week.
