2nd UPDATE: Gunfire Exchange Between A Bryan Police Officer And A Kidnapping Suspect

Domestic violence outside a downtown Bryan nightclub and a bar was followed by gunfire between the suspect and a Bryan police officer. A Houston man was arrested for aggravated kidnapping, family violence assault causing bodily injury, and aggravated assault of a public servant. BPD arrest reports say 23 year old Kevin Herniquez slapped his girlfriend multiple times in the face then grabbed her neck and threw her down on the parking lot. Then Herniquez forced her into his car and at gunpoint drove her to an apartment complex. The victim said as she was being dragged by her hair, Herniquez was the first to fire a gun at an officer. The officer also said he returned fire that was initiated by the boyfriend. Herniquez said he responded to being shot at first by someone he later learned was an officer. The Texas Rangers are investigating the officer involved portion of the incident. The victim received minor injuries that did not require medical treatment. The officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries caused by bullet fragments. Herniquez was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound before being transported to jail. He is held as of September 2nd in lieu of bonds totaling $380,000 dollars. 1st update, August 31, 2024: Bryan police report an exchange of gunfire between an officer and a kidnapping suspect. The victim received minor injuries that did not require medical treatment and the officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries. After the suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment of unidentified injuries, he was taken to the Brazos County jail. Jail records show 23 year old Kevin Herniquez of Houston was arrested for aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon, family violence assault causing bodily injury, and aggravated assault of a public servant. News release from Bryan police: On August 31st, 2024, at 0135 hrs, officers were dispatched to an Aggravated Kidnapping in progress. The information provided to officers during their investigation led them to an apartment complex in the 600 blk of S. Ennis. At 0244 hrs, during a search of the complex, officers encountered the suspect, identified as Kevin Henriquez, 23 years of age, holding a firearm while physically controlling the victim. Henriquez fired multiple shots at one officer, who returned fire striking Henriquez. Henriquez was able to flee from the area in a vehicle. At 0258 hrs, a vehicle being operated by Henriquez was located in the 800 blk of S. Texas Ave. The vehicle was stopped and Henriquez was arrested. Henriquez was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released. Henriquez was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a police officer, Aggravated Kidnapping and Assault Family Violence. He was booked into the Brazos County Jail. The victim of the Aggravated Kidnapping and Assault Family Violence received minor injuries from Henriquez that did not require medical treatment. The officer who returned fire during the incident received minor injuries related to the gunfire that did not require medical treatment. The officer has been placed on administrative leave per department policy pending the outcome of an administrative investigation. The officer will not be identified until the completion of the administrative investigation. Herniquez and the victim are in a dating relationship. The Bryan Police Department is investigating the criminal complaints surrounding the Aggravated Assault charges and Family Violence. The Texas Rangers are investigating the officer involved shooting portion of the incident. The BPD news release says officers responded Saturday at 1:35 a.m. to the 600 block of South Ennis. That is between Heritage Park and the St. Joseph secondary campus. The gunfire took place after officers found the kidnapping victim and suspect. The suspect was arrested at an undisclosed location after fleeing the scene. Ennis reference to a reported kidnapping in progress. Once on scene officers located the suspect and victim involved in the kidnapping. During this encounter an officer and the suspect exchanged gunfire. The suspect fled the scene but was located and arrested. The suspect received minor injuries from a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The officer involved in the shooting received minor injuries that were treated on the scene.

Two Arrests, Each On Multiple Warrants From Bryan Municipal Court

A Bryan man is in and out of the Brazos County jail for the fourth time in less than two years on warrants for not paying fines in multiple Bryan municipal court cases. Online jail records shows 24 year old Monterrius Harrison, who was booked Tuesday (August 27) on 12 warrants where he owes more than $6,300 dollars, was released the next day to be placed on community supervision. Five of Harrison’s warrants were for not having a valid drivers license, three were for not having vehicle insurance, and two was for driving trucks with children riding in an open bed. A College Station woman spent time in the Brazos County jail this week after she was arrested on six warrants for failing to quarantine an animal. A Bryan police spokesman says this involves an animal biting someone back in January. The six warrants from Bryan municipal court are for six days that the animal was not quarantined. 42 year old Amanda Miskell, who was arrested on Wednesday (August 28), was released from jail the next day after posting bonds totaling $3,360 dollars.

City Of College Station Announces Reopening Luther Street Near Texas A&M’s West Campus

The city of College Station announced late Friday afternoon (August 30) the reopening of Luther Street near Texas A&M’s west campus. Luther Street between Penberthy and Marion Pugh had been closed since January as part of a $3.5 million dollar project. In addition to the replacing the street, the city’s contractor has completed installation of a new water line and new drainage. Yet to be completed, is the installation of sidewalks, signage, and striping. A city news release thanked the contractor for completing the street three months ahead of schedule, to assist with moving traffic during Texas A&M home football weekends and accommodate bus routes.
