For the first time, there are more than 800 inmates in the Brazos County jail.
Sheriff Wayne Dicky, who reported 808 inmates at Tuesday’s county commission meeting (April 9), said he doesn’t see the inmate population falling anytime soon.
The inmate population is up by almost 100 from a year ago. The sheriff reported to commissioners on April 25, 2023 that there were 701 inmates. That was the first time the population exceeded 700 since 2018.
The Brazos County jail’s capacity is almost 1,100.
