Brazos County Inmates Work to Reduce Time

At least one county jail in Texas is scaling back its inmate work crew program.

Taylor County officials in West Texas said inmates are not interested in doing manual labor, even if it means reducing their time in jail.

Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk said it is not a problem here. He said inmates work on road crews, maintenance crews, and do chores in jail such as cooking, cleaning and laundry.

Kirk said for every one day of work, an inmate gets three days credit towards their sentencing.
