Here is the news release from the Brazos County Republican Party:
The special election to replace Rep. Fred Brown has turned exceptionally negative in the past few days. We have seen a barrage of mailers, YouTube videos, and news reports that are defaming to one of our candidates, to the Republican Party of Brazos County, and conservatives throughout the Brazos Valley.
This type of campaigning is clearly unacceptable. Each candidate voluntarily signed the “Code of Fair Campaign Practices” (CFCP), a copy of which is attached to this release. There have been numerous violations of this code in the past several days.
We call upon all of the candidates to maintain professionalism as we move to the most critical juncture of the campaign. The individuals that have contributed to the campaigns deserve better – and the voters deserve better and will not tolerate those who do not adhere to Reagan’s Eleventh Commandment of campaigning.
Further, we call upon all of the candidates to reaffirm their commitment to the CFCP as stated in Article 7: I will immediately and publicly repudiate methods and tactics that may come from others that I have pledged not to use or condone. I shall take firm action against any subordinate who violates any provision of this code or the laws governing elections.
We must present our issues to the voters with a clear vision – a vision which gives the voters the opportunity to send a true conservative to the state Legislature.
