This week marks the first time the Texas State 4-H Horse Show is being held at the Brazos County Expo Complex.
Carl Kolbe, General Manager, said the event, which has been held in Abilene for the past 35 years, is a great boost for the Expo and the local economy.
“It was between $800,000 and $1 million in Abilene in 2017, so we are hoping to reach that and exceed that,” said Kolbe.
Kolbe says facility improvements in 2017 allowed them to bid for the event and sign a 5-year contract.
“In 2017, we finished our phase three out here at the expo which added another full barn and a covered warm-up arena, so it gave us the facility we needed,” said Kolbe.
Kolbe said 350 4-H youth will participate in several events this week.
