Brazos County Commissioners Will File Lawsuit Against VW/Audi

Brazos County commissioners have hired an outside lawyer who will file a lawsuit against Volkswagen and Audi, seeking as much as $10.3 million dollars after the carmaker admitted to installing devices that deactivated emissions controls.

County Attorney Rod Anderson says the damage figure is based on the more than 500 vehicles registered in Brazos County between 2009 and 2015.

Anderson says if the county wins the lawsuit and collects any money, up to 35 percent of the award will go to the law firm hired by the county. The remainder will be split in half with the state. Brazos County will not be on the hook for any expenses.

Brazos County Judge Duane Peters says “the commissioners court felt like it was probably the prudent thing to do since there potentially could be a settlement come from this and since Brazos County may be one of the counties who is going to be impacted” after Volkswagen and Audi admitted to installing the emissions defeat devices.
