Brazos County will be spending up to $819,000 dollars to pay overtime for employees at the jail through the end of September.
There was no discussion before Tuesday’s (July 23) unanimous approval of a budget amendment to have almost $84,000 dollars available for medical employees and to have more than $735,000 dollars available for other jail employees.
This follows commission action in May to seek proposals to hire a consultant to evaluate jail staffing.
College Station police assists the U.S. Marshal’s office and Huntsville police in the capture of a west Texas man. CSPD arrest reports say the Marshal’s office requested assistance in capturing the man who was inside the Home Depot on Monday (July 22) because “he was described to be armed and had made statements he would shoot at police if he was contacted by them.” The man, accompanied by a woman, were seen exiting Home Depot and got into a pickup truck that was reported stolen from Huntsville. The truck left the parking lot, drove west on University, then turned onto Spring Loop. A CSPD officer following the truck attempted to make a traffic stop on Spring Loop. A pursuit continued on Spring Loop, reaching a top speed of 80 miles per hour. The chase crossed Tarrow into the Chimney Hill neighborhood. The truck stopped on Hearthstone Circle, a cul-de-sac. The man and woman were both placed in handcuffs after they exited the truck. The man who was driving the truck was identified as 26 year old Tyler Axel Rogers of Andrews. He was arrested on CSPD charges of evading while driving the stolen vehicle and possessing a stolen gun as a convicted felon. Jail records show he was also arrested on warrants from Gaines County (TX) for theft, burglary of a building, and evading, a warrant from Yoakum County (TX) for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and a warrant from Lea County (NM) for false evidence of title and registration. Rogers remains jailed as of July 24th in lieu of bonds totaling $113,000 dollars. The woman who was a passenger, 31 year old Danielle Castillo of Seminole Texas, was arrested on a CSPD charge of possessing methamphetamine and warrants from Gaines County (TX) for theft of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Castillo remains jailed as of July 24th in lieu of bonds totaling $61,000 dollars.

July’s meeting of the College Station ISD school board included an update about upcoming roof replacements and repairs that will be funded in part with bond money approved by voters last November. CSISD’s new facilities director Paul Buckner said he and the district’s roof consultant are investigating whether some of the cost of replacing and repairing roofs can be paid by filing manufacturer’s warranty and insurance claims. CSISD board members expressed no opposition to recommendations of allocating more than $21 million dollars in bond money to 17 roof projects at 15 locations. The amount of bond money may be less, depending on what can be paid by manufacturer warranties and insurance claims from hailstorms.
