Brazos County commissioners approve spending $1.6 million dollars to fix the section of Leonard Road west of Highway 47 that runs parallel to Thompsons Creek.
Purchasing agent Charles Wendt tells WTAW News that the pavement is being eroded by the creek, and the repairs will preserve the road and hold the remaining creek bank in place.
Before the commission’s unanimous vote, Wendt joked with new commissioner and former local car dealer Fred Brown.
When Brown mentioned the contract was awarded to a Huntsville company, Wendt told Brown in jest the contractor “bought a Mazda in Bryan, some years ago.”
As the laughter subsided, Wendt told Brown “I’ve been waiting to use that, I’m not going to lie.”
Then Brown thanked Wendt “for the Mazda thing”.
Once the county gives a notice to proceed, construction will take 70 calendar days to complete.
The commission approved a budget amendment to supply the funding for the project.
