Brazos Central Appraisal District Wins County Bid To Buy Land To Build A New Office

Brazos County commissioners have approved a conditional sale of land next to the new tax office to the Brazos Central Appraisal District (BCAD).

The condition is BCAD getting approval of three of the four of the districts other members, who are the College Station and Bryan school boards and city councils.

BCAD submitted a $300,000 dollar bid, the minimum sought by the county. The appraisal district was the only bidder.

This is the appraisal district’s third attempt to move from leased space into its own offices.

Chief appraiser Mark Price says there is an increasing safety concern to separate employees from the public.

County commissioners offered no comments before their unanimous vote. That followed an executive session that was interrupted twice by county officials meeting with BCAD representatives to negotiate the agreement. That included the county agreeing to sell BCAD more land above the original offer, which Price said was for employee parking.
