Brazos Animal Shelter Severs Ties With Bryan

The City of Bryan and the Brazos Animal Shelter are ending a 30 year relationship.

Shelter Board President Judy LeUnes says the finances are in place to move to land owned by the shelter as early as eight weeks from now.

Comments from Judy LeUnes.

The shelter and city had annual operating contracts until last fall, when the shelter dramatically increased the price paid to hold animals for 72 hours. The Bryan City Council then decided to see if that could be done less expensively. Friday was the deadline to submit proposals.

LeUnes says the shelter declined to make an offer because the city wanted to control all shelter activities.

More from Judy LeUnes.

While the shelter has to be out of the city building by June 30th, LeUnes says there service will not be interrupted with other cities and counties.

A company from The Woodlands operated by a Montgomery County Constable submitted the only proposal to run Bryan’s animal shelter.
