The Texas A&M Board of regents has had a teleconference to talk about possible realignment for the Aggies and A&M President R. Bowen Loftin did speak with the media afterwards.

Loftin said that A&M’s goal is not necessarily to join the SEC but rather to enhance A&M’s visibility and that staying in the Big 12 is certainly an option.

Loftin said that any move from the Big 12 to the SEC or any other conference would be a lengthy process and that anything A&M does would be in the best interest of A&M, the State of Texas and A&M would also have concern of what’s good for the other Big 12 schools.

He said that if A&M does leave the Big 12, he personally would negotiate to continue the Thanksgiving football rivalry with the Texas Longhorns.

The Texas A&M Board did give President  Loftin the authority to move the Aggies out of the Big 12.

They gave him the OK to take any action he deems necessary when it comes to conference alignment.
