Bond Denied for Former FBI Agent

DALLAS (AP) _ A judge denied bond for a former FBI agent accused of making death threats against his estranged wife and the head of the Dallas FBI office.

Judge Irma Ramirez ruled in federal court Thursday that 48-year-old Carlos Ortiz is a danger to the community and ordered his detainment until trial.

Ortiz faces a charge of threatening to assault or murder a federal law enforcement officer. He is accused of telling a friend that he was going to kill his wife, a bureau analyst, and Dallas FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert E. Casey Jr.

Ortiz has worked for the FBIfor 21 years but was fired and arrested Wednesday while at work.

His father and girlfriend told reporters Ortiz is not violent and blamed his firing and arrest on his estranged wife.
