The Brazos Valley Bombers got the second half of the season started just like they got the first half started, with a win. Now they need to hope things don’t keep following suit because in June they followed their season opening win with eight straight losses and that ultimately cost them a shot at securing a playoff spot after 30 games.
But last night at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark the Bombers beat the 1st half champs East Texas Pump Jacks 4-1 on the strength of Alec Mills’ 10-strikeout pitching performance. Throw in 12 Bombers hits and a couple of Pump Jack throwing errors and the Bombers go 1-0 to start the second set of 30 games.
They’ll host the Pump Jacks again tonight and then bring in Acadiana for two Friday and Saturday. Matter of fact it’s pure Pump Jacks and Cane Cutters for the next three weeks of the Bombers’ schedule.
