Bryan/College Station, Texas (July 12, 2017)-The Brazos Valley Bombers offense showed up big tonight against the Generals with eight runs on six hits to defeat the Generals by a final score of 8-1 to split the series with the Generals before a few days off.
Victoria struck first in the top of the first inning off of starter Miguel Ausua. But from then on out, Ausua buckled down. The next six innings went scoreless for the Generals behind a ‘gritty’ start and a great relief appearance from Dayden Lane.
At the same time, the Bombers lineup exploded with eight unanswered runs including a solo shot from Michael Helman (4). Chase Calabuig had 2 RBIs off a double in the bottom of the 3rd, and the team leader in RBIs Jared Mang added another on off a SAC fly in the first.
Miguel Ausua was named the Nutrabolt Player of the Game going 7 IP, with 7 Ks, 2 H, and 4 BB in his final start for the Bombers this season.
With the win, the Bombers improve to 22-11 on the season and hold their 3.5 game lead over the Generals in the Baylor Scott & White Health TCL Standings.
The Bombers have a few days off following the win before returning home to play the Texarkana Twins beginning on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and the pre-game show can be found on Willy 1550 and radioaggieland.com starting at 6:45pm.
