Bryan-College Station, TX (July 10, 2013) –
On Tuesday, July 9 the Texas Collegiate League held their annual All Star Game at Driller Park in Kilgore, TX. The league was divided into an East team, represented by the Acadiana Cane Cutters, East Texas PumpJacks, and Woodlands Strykers, and a West team, represented by the Brazos Valley Bombers, Victoria Generals, and Texas Marshals.
The Bombers, who have consistently held the top spot in the TCL all season, as well as been ranked #2 nationally, sent eleven players to Kilgore to represent the West team, including shortstop Horacio Correa III, shortstop Matt Eureste, second baseman Patrick McLendon, first baseman G.R. Hinsley, catcher Jake Henson, left fielder Brett Kauten, center fielder Blake Kopetsky, and pitchers Parker Ray, Zac Curtis, Jason Freeman, and Nick Johnson.
The West team struck first by earning a run in the top of the second when Kauten reached first on a fielder’s choice, then was able to steal second and come home on two errors. Bombers players continued to make a splash in the third inning when Kopetsky reached first on a single, then was able to earn the second run of the night after a few wild pitches. In the bottom of the fifth Zac Curtis took the mound for the west team and struck out all three batters he faced.
Other highlights from Brazos Valley players included Henson scoring a run in the top of the seventh after a walk, and Eureste earning an RBI in the ninth for the West’s final run of the game. Five of the West team’s six strikeouts on the mound were earned by the four Bombers arms that each pitched one inning. Despite both offensive and defensive strengths, the West was unable to hold the East team, who outhit the West 12 to 8. The final score of the match ended in an 11-8 defeat of the West.
The Bombers return to the Brazos Valley on July 11 when they face the Texas Marshals at 7:05pm. For all your hospitality and ticket information needs call (979) 779 – PLAY or go to www.bvbombers.com.
