Bombers Complete East Texas Takedown

Bryan-College Station, TX (June 26, 2013) – American Momentum Bank ballpark looked like the set of a game show on Wednesday as the night opened up with the Team Auto of Navasota Cash Giveaway, where one lucky fan earned $100 just for showing up! The excitement continued into the game as the Bombers took down the PumpJacks for the second night in a row with a score of 8-4.

Both teams came out of the gate strong as East Texas immediately earned two runs in the top of the first, but were quickly overtaken by Brazos Valley, who scored three of their own in the bottom of the inning. After loading the bases with two singles and a walk, designated hitter Hunter Melton approached the plate and delivered a single up the middle that brought in both Horacio Correa III and Brett Kauten. Catcher Alex Mercado then reached first on a fielder’s choice, but an overthrow allowed G.R. Hinsley to come home for the go-ahead run.

In the bottom of the second the Bombers were able to load the bases for a second time and bring in another run on a walk for right fielder Patrick McLendon. The score remained 4-2, in favor of the Bombers, until the top of the fourth and fifth when East Texas scored one per inning, tying the game up at four all. As usual, Brazos Valley didn’t stay still for long and doubled their score in the bottom of the sixth. The rally began when third baseman Hunter Hagler laid down a bunt up the first base line to bring in center fielder Graham McIntyre. On the next at bat shortstop Correa reached the bag on a bunt that was extended into a triple on an error. Correa received two RBI on the play when both Hagler and Miles Manning came home. The final run of the night was brought in by Kauten when he reached on a single, sending Correa home for the eighth. The game ended as the Bombers twelfth straight home victory with a score of 8-4.

Horacio Correa III earned Player of the Game after getting on base five times and earning two RBIs on the night. The mound was handled by Bryce Rutherford for the first six innings, earning six strikeouts. Logan Burch handled the seventh for Brazos Valley, Brandon Bergen in the eighth, and Jason Freeman in the ninth with two strikeouts.
