Blinn Trustees Take Faculty Senate Resolution Under Advisement

Blinn College faculty members were back before the board of trustees Monday night in Brenham.

No board action was taken following the presentation of a resolution the Faculty Senate passed last week, pronouncing a no confidence vote in Blinn district president Harold Nolte and vice president of instruction Cynthia Smith.

The resolution and supporting documentation given to the board grew out of an academic reorganization two and a half years ago, replacing faculty-led department heads and assistants with full time deans.

Board president Douglas Borchardt says the trustees will gather more information with the intent of holding a special meeting later this month for further discussion.

Personnel issues were one of the reasons for going into executive session Monday night.

Another was real estate, specifically the proposed purchase of land and the Lynntech building for a College Station campus. A special meeting Tuesday includes possible final action on that purchase along with consideration of accepting an offer of donated land for a second campus in Bryan.

Tuesday’s meeting in Brenham starts at 6:30 p.m. with public comment, followed by trustees returning behind closed doors to deliberate before taking final votes in open session.
