Blinn College Trustees Get First Look At FY 16 Budget

For the first time in several years, there could be a decrease in fall enrollment at Blinn College.

But the first draft of next year’s Blinn budget forecasts an additional $10 million dollars of revenue without having to increase taxes for property owners in Washington County.

During the first round of questions from the board of trustees, administrators were asked why there was not going to be a pay raise for part-time instructors, who with a masters degree are making less than $14 dollars per hour. Part of the explanation was Blinn ranks ninth among Texas community colleges in that area.

Next year’s Blinn budget calls for fulltime employees receiving a three percent pay raise.

New president Mary Hensley is also asking for an additional $1 million dollars for personnel…after reviewing current staffing and possibly moving some people into new positions. Dr. Hensley is also considering elimination of vacant positions.

Blinn trustees hold their second budget workshop Tuesday afternoon in Brenham.
