Blinn College and the Texas Workforce Commission made formal presentations on Thursday regarding training grants at two Bryan/College Station manufacturers.
The first stop was at FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies. A grant of almost $290,000 dollars will provide custom training to 140 current and new employees. Upon completion, those FUJIFILM employees will receive an average wage of more than $24 dollars per hour.
The second stop was at Axis Pipe and Tube. A grant of almost $470,000 dollars will provide custom training for 200 new and current employees. Upon completion, those Axis employees will receive an average wage of more than $32 dollars per hour.

FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies Texas LLC (FUJIFIL) has partnered with Blinn College to provide job training using a $289,395 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant will benefit workers in the Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley area. This grant will be used to provide custom training to 140 new and incumbent workers for industry-related topics with focused instruction on biotechnology manufacturing. Trainees will include lab technicians, manufacturing technicians and manufacturer supervisors. Upon completion of training, the workers will receive an average wage of $24.53.
Axis Pipe and Tube Inc. has partnered with Blinn College to provide job training using a $469,880 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant will benefit workers in the Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley area. This grant will be used to provide custom training to 200 new and incumbent workers for industry-related topics with focused instruction on the manufacturing of tubular products for the oil and gas industry. Trainees will include forklift operators, lab tech/inspectors and production operator/fabricator. Upon completion of training, the workers will receive an average wage of $32.66.
