Blinn College Fares Well on State Funding

The most recent session of the Texas legislature was a good thing for Blinn College.

Click to hear WTAW’s Chris Clift talk with Dr. Van Miller, Vice President of Administrative Services and CFO for Blinn:

Base funding for Blinn College will be almost $47 million over the next two year budget cycle.

That number includes a $5.6 million increase in state dollars, which represents an additional 13 percent.

Funding was also secured to provide $100,000 for the Star of the Republic Museum at Washington on the Brazos state historical site to complete visitor upgrades promoting Texas history.

The museum is administered by Blinn College.

Another funding measure not directly aimed at Blinn will still provide a nice boost – House Bill 4471 provides $30 million statewide to give incentives for nursing schools to hire more teachers and produce more graduates.

Blinn should see about $320,000 over the next two years as a result of the Nursing Shortage Reduction Program.
