From Blinn College:
The Blinn College District has named Dr. Marcelo Bussiki its new Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Bussiki has served as Blinn’s Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs since September.
Bussiki came to Blinn as a Music Instructor in 2001, and in 2006, he was named Chair of Blinn’s Fine Arts Division. In 2014, he was named an Academic Dean. Under Bussiki’s leadership, the Division of Visual/Performing Arts and Kinesiology more than tripled its student enrollment while introducing new academic and community outreach programs, including the Performing Arts Series and the Blinn-Bryan Theatre Troupe.
Bussiki is a member of Blinn’s Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Steering Committee, Calendar Committee, Quality Enhancement Plan Committee, Enrollment Management Committee, Distance Learning Advisory Committee, and Strategic Planning Steering Committee.
In addition to his role at Blinn, Bussiki is Music Director/Conductor of the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra. A native of Brazil, he studied at the Brazilian Conservatory of Music in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro Federal University, and the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. He earned his Doctorate of Musical Arts in conducting from the University of Houston in 1998.
Bussiki has been awarded knighthood in the Ordem de Merito de Mato Grosso in recognition of his pioneering work in cultural expansion and musical education and received the title of “Oficial,” the highest honor the government can confer upon an artist in Brazil.
Bussiki is a member of the Texas Community College Teachers Association, the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Association of Symphony Orchestras, the College Station Noon Lion’s Club, the B/CS Sister Cities International Program, the American League of Orchestras and the Conductor’s Guild.
