CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) _ After responding to a number of weather-related problems, a police chief in a small Texas town got a different kind of call: A stranded woman was about to give birth.
The Clovis News Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1UeYbcN ) that Farwell police chief Larry Kelsay spent the weekend pulling cars from snowdrifts, helping people find shelter and dealing with damaged cause by the blizzard.
Then, at about 1 a.m. Monday, a Farwell woman called police and said she was about to give birth. The town doesn’t have a hospital and the roads were closed.
Kelsay called paramedic Weldon Kube and drove him to the women’s home. A second paramedic, Craig Giesbrecht, joined them there.
Kelsay says it was an easy birth. The baby was born at about 3:30 a.m.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) _ Lubbock police say the body of a lightly-dressed homeless man was found behind a convenience store following a night of below-freezing temperatures.
Police say the man’s body was found Monday morning, following overnight temperatures in the area that dipped to 24 degrees. The Lubbock County medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death, but Lubbock police Sgt. Ross Hester says, “it looks as though he’s a victim of freezing.”
He told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal (http://bit.ly/1QUL5DM ) that police do not suspect foul play
The man was found wearing jeans and a light jacket. He was covered with a light blanket. Hester says the man was in a homeless camp along a wooded path.
Hester says the man “definitely unprepared for the cold temperatures.”
Investigators could not immediately identify the man.
