Texas Association of Realtors released the 2016-Q1 edition of the Texas Quarterly Housing Report.
Bryan-College Station home sales decreased 3.6 percent in the first quarter of 2016 to 642 single-family home sales, while median price increased 11.4 percent to $195,000 during the same time frame.
Executive Officer of the Bryan College Station Regional Association of Realtors, Ed Berry said people just aren’t selling right now. He said people moving to the area are outnumbering those who want to leave.
“There’s a bunch of Ags out there who want to retire and move back here,” said Berry.
Berry said another factor comes from Texas A&M joining the Southeastern conference making B/CS a popular destination for visitors.
“They go back home to wherever they’re from, Alabama or South Carolina or wherever, and sing the praises of Bryan-College Station,” said Berry.
Berry said home builders are hard pressed to keep up with the demand because the majority of skilled workers in the area are used for larger construction projects at Texas A&M and Blinn College.
