Baptist Group Targets El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (AP) _ Texas Baptists are starting with El Paso in an effort to put biblical passages in 8.8 million Texas homes by Easter 2010.

The Baptist General Convention of Texas is spearheading the effort, which begins Monday when churches in El Paso begin distributing bilingual multimedia compact discs containing selected scripture readings and personal stories to all 250,000 El Paso homes.

The biblical passages will be from the English Standard Version.

The CDs will be delivered door-to-door, through community block parties and benevolence outreaches such as food pantries.

The state Baptist group has more than 5,500 congregations and 2.3 million affiliated members.
