BRYAN, Texas (AP) _ The owner of The Eagle of Bryan-College Station has hung a “for sale” sign on the 123-year-old daily newspaper.
An article posted on the newspaper’s website reports the chief executive of The Evening Post Publishing Co. says the Charleston, S.C.-based company is trying to diversify its holdings. John Barnwell declined to state a price for the newspaper, but he says the family-owned company also hopes to pay off its existing debt by 2015.
The company bought The Eagle 12 years ago from the Dallas-based A.H. Belo Corp. for an undisclosed price and is the eighth owner the newspaper has had since attorney Richard Smith published the first edition in 1889 of what was then the Bryan Eagle.
