Autopsy Results Released on Teen Shot By Police

HARLINGEN, Texas (AP) _ A preliminary autopsy report shows a 15-year-old South Texas boy killed by police during a confrontation at a middle school died of two gunshot wounds to the torso.

Police shot Jaime Gonzalez Jr. at Cummings Middle School in Brownsville on Thursday after he pointed a handgun at officers. Investigators later found that Gonzalez had been armed only with a pellet gun.

The boy’s family had raised questions about a wound to the back of his head. However, interim Brownsville Police Chief Orlando Rodriguez said the preliminary autopsy report he received late Thursday showed “there was no shot to the head. It was two shots to the front in the torso area.”

Asked about the head wound, Rodriguez said, “It’s a laceration as a result of the fall.”
