Audit Shows Shoddy Asset Management at CDC

ATLANTA (AP) _ A government audit says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lost or misplaced millions of dollars worth of property in 2007.

The report says among the more than $8 million in property unaccounted for were a $1.8 million hard disk drive and a $978,000 video conferencing system.

The CDC doesn’t dispute the report, but a spokeswoman says all but four of the 15 missing pieces of equipment have been found — including the hard disk drive and the video conferencing system.

The CDC also says it’s fixed its problems, accounting for 99 percent of its property last year and all of it this year.

In 1995, during its first such audit, the CDC was unable to account for more than $5.5 million in property.
