Attack Jams Waco Police Phone Lines

WACO, Texas (AP) _ Waco police hope telephone access to police headquarters is restored quickly after some sort of high-tech attack jammed all of the department’s administrative phone lines.

Police spokesman Sgt. Patrick Swanton tells the Waco Tribune-Herald that a “phone attack” began tying up the department’s non-emergency phone lines about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday. Swanton said a phone bank is the suspected source and the assault appeared to be intentional and investigators were trying to pin down the source.

Emergency calls to 911 dispatchers weren’t affected, and Swanton said the department was urging residents to hold off on non-emergency calls until Wednesday.
