College Station City Council Approves $240,000 Contract to Study Groundwater

The College Station city council unanimously approved a $240,000 contract to study groundwater at their last meeting. Steven Maldonado, Water Department Assistant Director, says the study is due to concerns about the future availability of water in our area. “As water potentially gets moved out of our area, there will be impacts to our wells and to our well field. What this contract will do, we’ll go through scenarios and start ramping up numbers. Depends on how much gets withdrawn from the area and how much impact that would be,” said Maldonado. Maldonado says six scenarios will be tested to see the impact on the wells. “Look at what that would do to our existing wells, to future wells, to our rates,” said Maldonado. Three new water wells are planned for the City of College Station in 2028. The budget for the design and construction of wells 10, 11, and 12 is $68.7 million. Brazos County Sheriff’s Office Looking for Missing Woman

News release from Amber Alert Network Brazos Valley: Roxanne Elizabeth Baker has been reported missing to the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office. She was last seen early in the morning of Wednesday January 29, 2025, and was on foot wearing a green sweater and black skirt. She had travelled on foot from Brazos County to Round Rock, Williamson County, TX and could possibly be travelling back to Brazos County, may be in Brazos County, or at an unknown location.

Brazos Valley Impact With The Presidents Higher Tariffs

Those attending the Bryan/College Station chamber of commerce economic outlook conference heard about the impact of the president’s proposal to increase tariffs. Economist Lori Taylor, who is a department head at Texas A&M’s Bush school, expects “substantial increases” in the price of a new vehicle. She recommended buying a new vehicle in the next month to avoid higher prices caused by the increased cost of components that are imported to manufacture vehicles. Taylor also said the increased tariffs vary. For instance, the tariff on cotton shirts is different than silk shirts, the tariff on cotton suits is different than wool suits, and the tariff on men’s golf shoes is five percent while the tariff on women’s golf shoes is 10 percent. Taylor showed a slide in her presentation stating if increased tariffs are implemented, the impact in the Brazos Valley includes: A sharp increase in prices for tradeable goods The Federal Reserve may delay interest rate cuts to fight the inflationary impact There will be slower economic growth Job losses in import consuming industries A net overall loss in jobs And an ambiguous impact on sales tax revenue Click below to hear Lori Taylor’s comments at the B/CS chamber commerce economic outlook conference on January 22, 2025 about the impact of increased tariffs if enacted by President Trump.
