The Arts Council of the Brazos Valley is looking again for a new chief executive.
According to a news release from the arts council’s lawyer, Sylvia McMullen was fired Wednesday after she was placed on unpaid administrative leave last Friday.
According to attorney Gaines West, McMullen misused an arts council credit card. Details of the allegation were not disclosed.
But the arts council has informed College Station police of its findings, and the council has hired a forensic accountant to perform a more complete audit.
McMullen told WTAW News that over the holidays she used an arts council credit card for a total of $697.70.
After that, McMullen said she gave a check to the deputy director to cover the charges and she notified the arts council board president and treasurer.
McMullen says she offered a resignation letter, which was never accepted. And McMullen says she has not been contacted by the arts council board or staff.
Returning to the position of interim director is Amy Salvaggio, as the board conducts its second search in the last seven months.
McMullen was hired last October following a nationwide search.
