Art and Myra Bright Park

Art and Myra Bright built the first home in the Raintree subdivision in 1978.

Monday, May 2, 2016 the neighborhood park was renamed to honor them.

Art was a renowned math teacher and coach at A&M Consolidated High School before becoming principal.

Myra worked at Texas A&M Transportation Institute for 20 years.

The Brights volunteered for many local organizations and helped bring Habitat for Humanity to the community.

Neil Sperry, one of Art’s former students, said when people talk about Art and Myra, they always use the word “together”.

“In 100 years, if a newcomer asks who were Art and Myra, when they come down the street and they see the sign, our children and our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren, in chorus will say ‘I know those people, I know their names,’ because great-grandpa, Neil, talked about them,” said Sperry.

Art and Myra’s daughter, Janice Bright Attaway, said since she can remember, her parents were always helping others.

“He was always working tirelessly helping others through organizations like Twin City Mission and Habitat for Humanity. As long as I can remember, Mom and Dad were always helping someone else,” she said.

Art passed away in January 2015. Myra was at the renaming ceremony with her daughter.
