Arson Fires Rattle Houston Neighborhood

HOUSTON (AP) _ Twenty-two arsons have been set since August in a historic Houston neighborhood called the Heights, an area known more for its comforting small-town feel than for being the center of criminal activity.

Authorities charged a suspect last month for starting one of the blazes. But he hasn’t been charged in any of the other arsons and the fires continued even after his arrest.

Residents say they are glad no one has been hurt yet, but they are worried their homes could be next.

Diane Kight lives across the street from one of the homes that burned. She says she doesn’t think authorities have caught the person responsible and recently, when she saw a fire truck on the road, she was immediately concerned it was racing toward her house.
