Arrests Follow Two High Speed Chases And Vehicles Run Off The Road By A Wrong Way Driver

A DPS trooper who clocked a motorcyclist of running a stop sign at 138 miles per hour in College Station last Thursday was able to stop the bike about a mile later in a residential neighborhood. 21 year old Luis Gonzalez-Acanda of College Station was arrested for reckless driving and evading arrest. Acanda is accused of leading two other troopers on a chase in the southbound lanes of the freeway at more than 100 miles per hour, then exiting at Barron Road. That’s where the third trooper clocked the bike at 138. Acanda stopped on Hunter Creek Drive near Decatur Drive. While Acanda went to jail, his motorcycle was released to his father. Acanda is out of jail after posting bond.

That was one of two chases involving DPS troopers in Brazos County last Thursday where speeds topped 130 miles per hour. The location of one pursuit involving a car was not disclosed. According to the arrest report, the driver, 19 year old Blake Krenek of Bryan, told the trooper he gave methamphetamine and marijuana to a passenger to hide in her pants. The passenger, 21 year old Layne Hallford of Bryan, was arrested for purchasing and furnishing alcohol to a minor. Krenek was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possessing marijuana. Both are out of jail after posting bond.

Bryan police responding to a call last Thursday afternoon of multiple vehicles driving off the road on Harvey Mitchell Parkway near Sandy Point Road to avoid being hit resulted in an arrest for driving while intoxicated. 36 year old Dejenay Beckwith of Cameron was arrested for DWI with one prior conviction and driving with an invalid license with prior convictions. According to her arrest report, Beckwith told officers she did not realize she was driving in the wrong lanes. She denied being under the influence of alcohol or PCP, but she listed medications she took earlier in the day included some where she was not supposed to drive or or operate heavy equipment. Beckwith, who was released from jail after posting bond, has two active suspensions on her drivers license and the state denied having her license renewed.
