Arrests After Bryan And Brazos County Detention Officers Were Injured

Local arrests from last weekend included two cases where officers were injured.

That includes a Bryan man booked in the Brazos County jail for the 39th time in 23 years. A Bryan police officer stopped a pickup last Friday night for failing to use a turn signal. According to the arrest report, the driver…who said later he was under the influence of PCP, slammed the officer to the pavement. The officer used pepper spray three times at the driver. And it took four officers to place the driver in custody. 41 year old Lawrence Auston remains in jail in lieu of bonds totaling $22,000 dollars on charges of assaulting a public servant, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, and driving with an invalid license with a prior conviction.

Another victim was a Brazos County detention officer, who was struck in the eye by the head of an inmate as they were falling to the floor. 30 year old Andrew Richard Newman of Colorado, who has been in jail since December 1 on a burglary warrant from Florida, was arrested for assaulting three officers.
